8th Graders Make the Move: Welcome to Upper School!
Exciting changes are happening at tuition-free public charter Santa Clarita Valley International (SCVi) Charter School! Our 8th graders are stepping into a new academic experience this year by joining the upper school campus. Under the guidance of our credentialed upper school facilitators, these learners will experience enhanced academic rigor while building the foundation for a smooth high school transition.
A Carefully Designed Transition
Expert-Led Learning: Content area specialists will now teach our 8th graders, providing subject-specific expertise and access to advanced facilities. This elevated academic environment that meets California Learning Standards, strengthens critical thinking skills while fostering meaningful connections with the staff who will guide them through high school.
The Best of Both Worlds: Our 8th graders enjoy upper school academics while maintaining important middle school traditions. They’ll share lunch and recess time on the lower school playground with familiar faces, use their own private restrooms, but won’t yet have open campus privileges. It’s a gradual, thoughtful approach that honors where they are developmentally.
Immersed in Upper School Culture: From day one, 8th graders become part of the upper school family, competing in spirit events and kicking off their year at upper school orientation rather than the lower school’s Meet the Facilitators Night.

Hands-On Career Preparation: Our TK-12th grade Aerospace Pathway continues into the upper school, with our famous 8th grade glider project. Learners master flight principles and pilot actual gliders, launching them perfectly into high school’s aviation focus complete with an aerospace CTE pathway option.
Global Education: The International Baccalaureate Career Programme blends internationally recognized academics with real-world career training.
Looking Ahead to College: Our dual enrollment program, College Connect, offers specialized pathways (Biliteracy, Aerospace, College Launchpad) that let learners earn college credits before graduation. Learners also receive personalized guidance on college and careers from our dedicated academic and college counselor.
