Parents as Partners
We love our community at Santa Clarita Valley International (SCVi) Charter School, a tuition-free TK-12th grade public school in Castaic, California. Parents and loving caregivers are our true partners in our success as a close-knit school. They are with us – every step of the way – as we facillitate bright futures for our amazing students. At SCVi, we are proud to include our students’ WHOLE community, whoever that is, because every valued connection promotes learning and growth.
Connecting our Community
At SCVi, we believe in community and connection, and family is a big part of that. Whether you give rides to school, act as your learner’s #1 cheerleader, or plead for a little more detail about their school day. These connections are important.
The success of your child’s education is dependent on your involvement in their education. As part of that, caregivers are highly encouraged to volunteer on campus. SCVi hopes that each family volunteers at least monthly to the school: we’d love your help, you get to see your child’s learning in action, and your child sees that you want to be involved in their school life. Win, win, win!
What can you do? We offer many ways for families to get involved at SCVi. Here are some ideas- or check out our volunteer opportunities on our website:
– in-class support as an educator aide
– adult workshops- parents/guardians teaching other parents/guardians
– outside research in support of specific school projects
– field trips (field studies) chaperone
– organizing a community service project for learners
– SCVi Board of Directors
– supervising at school: lunch periods, recess, before or after school, bus duty, morning valet, crossing guard, cafe, office and reception help, school tours, book and resource room, and Fun Fridays
– operation support- maintenance of the campus
– lost and found management
– coaching after-school sports
We also host many special events like our community family nights, Trunk-or-Treat, Math Night and Literacy Night. Applaud at a show through our theatre arts program or even go on the DreamUp to Space trip to Florida with your child’s team.
At SCVi, families play many important roles in the day-to-day operations of the school, as well as the strategic planning and overall vision of the school community. We strongly encourage participation in order to foster the home-school connection and we try to create a culture where families feel welcome to come onto campus often.
Can’t Spell “Partner” without “Parent”
Parents and caregivers can check-in with our engaged TK-12 school in many ways. In addition to our regularly scheduled presentations of learning (POLs), our Facilitators (teachers) are here to discuss your student’s progress and encourage you to reach out. We publish a weekly newsletter, the Monday Message and have a parent handbook for reference. Many facilitators host informational websites. In addition, follow us online!
