SCVi Middle School Aerospace Presentations of Learning: May 9 & 15

6th Hot Air Balloon Challenge 4.18.2025 SCVi (2)

Blast off with SCVi Middle School’s Aerospace Presentations of Learning (POLs)!

Come see the incredible projects our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders have been working on!

8th Grade: Soaring Aeronautics Presentation of Learning

  • May 9
  • 8:45-9:30 AM
  • SCVi MS Science Room

This project aims to understand why things fly using the lens of historicAL and modern gliders and exposes young people to aviation-related skills, knowledge, and career opportunities. The Engineering Design Process is used to develop and fly models, supporting an understanding of flight, how control services operate, the forces required for flight, and how human flight impacts us.

7th Grade: Rocketry Presentation of Learning

  • May 9
  • 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. Rocket launch demo at 12:15 PM
  • SCVi MS Science Room

The goal of this project is to explore rockets through the lens of physics, chemistry and engineering. Through a progression of increasingly difficult builds and launches, learners will gain a deeper understanding of the science and engineering behind rockets, their history, and applications to today’s challenges and opportunities.

6th Grade: Hot Air Balloon Presentation of Learning

In this interdisciplinary project, learners explore the science of hot air balloons through thermal energy transfer, engineering design, and weather patterns. By investigating how heat and air pressure interact with atmospheric conditions, learners will apply scientific principles to create and test balloon models. They will also examine how ballooning has contributed to the history of flight and how data is collected and used to monitor and reduce human impact on the environment.

  • May 15
  • 6A: 1:30-2:00 PM | 6B: 10:45-11:15 AM
  • SCVi MS Science Room

Don’t miss these amazing presentations showcasing the hard work and innovation of our middle schoolers!
