WASC Accredited: Our SCVi Standard Explained

Santa Clarita Valley International School students stand and sit at tables in a large classroom, some looking at the camera and raising their arms high in the air.

When searching for the right school, accreditation might not be the first thing on your list but it’s worth considering. At Santa Clarita Valley International (SCVi) Charter School, a tuition-free public charter school in Castaic, our WASC accreditation is more than a credential. It’s a third-party confirmation that what we’re doing here is working, and working well.

The Gold Standard of WASC, Explained

WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) is an independent accrediting organization with over 60 years of experience and partnerships with more than 5,500 institutions worldwide. Their mission is to advance and validate quality school improvement by supporting institutions through a rigorous self-evaluation and peer review process — one that centers equity, inclusion, and access to high-level learning for every learner.

In plain terms: WASC holds schools accountable in ways that matter. Here’s what accreditation actually does:

  • Assures families that a school’s purpose is appropriate and being accomplished through a viable education program
  • Validates the integrity of a school’s program and transcripts
  • Facilitates the transfer of credits to other English-speaking schools — critical for college and university acceptance worldwide
  • Provides a regular process for examining programs, data, and student learning through reflection and dialogue
  • Fosters continuous improvement of programs and operations
  • Brings valuable insight from fellow educators who visit and evaluate the school firsthand

Schools that earn WASC accreditation undergo a six-year evaluation cycle in which advisors and school staff work together to assess performance, illuminate strengths, and implement meaningful change. We love that WASC accreditation holds SCVi accountable to the same values we teach every day: learning is a lifelong process and there’s always room to grow.

The Educational Programs Behind the Credential

The learning that earned our accreditation are the same ones that make SCVi families proud every day. A couple programs we’re especially excited about:

Our College Connect program brings college professors directly to our campus so Upper School learners can earn transferable UC/CSU credits without ever leaving the supportive community they know. With three pathways (Biliteracy, College Launchpad, and Aerospace), no GPA requirements, and 1:1 college counseling, College Connect is the kind of forward-thinking education WASC recognizes and rewards.

Our TK-12 Aerospace Pathway gives learners real project-based learning experiences at every grade level, from studying biomimicry in kindergarten, to flying gliders in 8th grade, to sending experiments to the International Space Station through our DreamUp to Space partnership.

Beyond signature programs, WASC evaluators also recognize our small, personalized learning environment, our social-emotional learning approach, our dedicated and certified facilitators, and our robust offering of electives, arts, athletics, and clubs.

SCVi is tuition-free, WASC accredited, and open to TK-12 learners across Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, San Bernardino, and Kern Counties. Enrollment is open for 2026-27, learn more at ileadsantaclarita.org.

Free to think. Inspired to lead.
