Dear SCVi Families,
March is Arts Education Month. At SCVi, we know that the arts are foundational to learning. As author Eric Jensen writes, “The arts enhance the process of learning. The systems they nourish, which include our integrated sensory, attentional, cognitive, emotional, and motor capacities, are, in fact, the driving forces behind all other learning” (Arts with the Brain in Mind). The arts help us see the world from different perspectives, to express ourselves, and to complete important learning tasks that build self-confidence and self-discipline. Creating and exploring the world through the arts develops learners’ capacities for critical thinking, creativity, imagination, and innovation. Through project-based learning (PBL), we offer a curriculum rich in the arts for all subjects and all grade levels. We are grateful to have a community that values the arts in education.
