SCVi, iLEAD's Founding School

Monday Message – May 25, 2020

Dear learners and families,

This Memorial Day we take the opportunity to honor and commemorate all the men and women in military service who have given their lives for our country. This national holiday dates all the way back to the time of the Civil War, which ended in the spring of 1865. This war claimed more lives than any other military conflict in our country’s history at that time and required the establishment of our first national cemeteries. Soon after, towns and cities across the United States began to hold tributes in the springtime to the countless fallen soldiers. It is believed that this tradition was started by a group of freed slaves less than a month after the Confederacy surrendered in 1865. Each year on Memorial Day a national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m. local time. Although we will not be able to have our flag ceremony at school, and though there will be no big celebrations around town, we hope you take a moment today to honor those who have died for our freedom throughout our country’s history and to be grateful for what we have.

With gratitude,

The SCVi Leadership Team
Dr. Buono, Ms. Roffredo, Mrs. Toval
