Backpacks Full of Hope 2020 Info Meetings

As many of you are aware, on September 20, 2017, Puerto Rico was hit by Hurricane Maria, becoming the worst disaster in the island’s history. After pounding the small territory with near category 5 wind and rain for 30 hours, millions of Americans were left without drinking water, electricity, and shelter – many for over 6 months. It is estimated that it will take Puerto Rico, which was already suffering economic crisis before the hurricane, up to 7 years to fully recover.

Just a few months after the disaster, iLEAD families mobilized and launched the Backpacks Full of Hope humanitarian initiative to help rebuild. In March 2018, 19 learners, family members, and iLEAD staff set out to help with the reconstruction and reforestation efforts.

The trip was a huge success, but it was apparent that much work was still needed. So in April 2019, we returned – this time with over 30 backpackers, including 12 from that original group.

As there is still much to do, we are excited to announce the launch of the Backpacks Full of Hope 2020 humanitarian mission to Puerto Rico, March 31-April 8 (subject to change).

Trip cost is $1,550 total. A $150 refundable deposit is due to hold your spot when you register. First payment of $400 due by June 30th. There will be fundraising opportunities available. Registration and payment details will be available next week.

Join us at one of three informational meetings being held this coming week to discover how you and your learner can participate in this life-changing experience.
