Message from the Leadership Team

dream big, set goals, take action - inspirational handwriting on a napkin with a cup of coffee

Dear SCVi Families,

It’s hard to believe we’re at the one month mark of the school year. Routines have been established, and our communities are being solidified. We’re working on creating goals for all our learners, and diving deeply into projects.

The individual learning plan (ILP) process began last Friday, Sept. 15, in Lower School, and will begin this Thursday, Sept. 21, in Upper School. An ILP is a meeting between facilitator, learner and parent(s) to review assessment data and set goals to work toward for the remainder of the year. Each meeting lasts between 15 to 20 minutes depending on the grade level. ILP meetings will continue through Friday, Sept. 29.

Don’t forget that this Thursday, Sept. 21, we will follow a minimum day schedule to provide additional time to hold ILPs.

ILPs serve as the guide for your child and their facilitators throughout the school year. Please note: these ILP conferences are not traditional parent/teacher conferences.

The purposes of the ILP conferences are to establish learning and social/emotional goals for your child. These goals will serve as a personal compass to help guide individual learning.

Prior to your child’s ILP conference, it is very important that your child complete the self assessment, and that you complete the parent ILP questionnaire that your learner’s facilitator or advisor have shared with you. These documents along with the facilitator’s assessments are necessary for the establishment of goals for your child. It is also important that you and your child be present at the ILP conference as the learner, parent and facilitator are an educational team and input from all parties is necessary.

If you haven’t already heard from your learner’s facilitator or advisor, please reach out to them to schedule your meeting.

Finally, we’d like to join our Foundation Team in inviting all our families to join PAC (Parents Action Collaboration) this Wednesday, Sept. 20. Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” It is in this spirit we offer this invitation. The Fall Kick Off Meeting is this Wednesday, Sept. 20, in the CAFE.  Bring your calendar, your ideas and your smiles!

Have a super week!
