If you chose SCVi for all of them, you are correct! Our tuition-free TK-12th grade school in the Santa Clarita Valley acts a lot like a private school but at no cost. Here are some examples of the high quality you can expect at our small, public school:
Inclusive Not Exclusive
We support and care for ALL our learners at SCVi. We know each of our TK-12th graders by name and make sure to greet them every morning as they arrive. We also take the time to meet learners where they are academically and socially and help them grow and learn into their full potential.
At our tuition-free school, we center our curriculum around project-based learning. This collaborative, problem-solving approach means learners work together while learning specific fundamentals. We have space for a huddle, space to research and collaborate, and all the space to get any help needed.
We are a family community at SCVi: all are welcome. We are a small school that loves to make big connections. We love having our families in our school volunteering in the classroom, helping out at events, and/or taking part in one of our seminars.
We love to share what makes our learners shine too, like our Spring Open House, Showcases of Learning and engagements in the surrounding area. Our 10th grade learners engage in a personal project that often gives back to the community, like a learner who helped families experiencing homelessness access items they need. Budding athletes star in sporting events, as our small size means more playing time.
Investing in Our Learners
At SCVi, we are so excited to invest in the best for our learners. We have carefully considered a multitude of educational models and ideas and adapted them to serve our community’s needs. Here are some ways we have gone above and beyond a traditional public school model.
Social Emotional Learning
– Our Leader in Me Program focuses on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People series.
– Move the World engages learners with short effective exercises for their age level.
– Learner-Led Conferences (LLCs)
– Advisory Program for upper school and Morning Meetings for lower school
– Love and Logic discipline approach
– A Report of Progress that includes a narrative about your child’s development, both academically and socially. We know and cherish your child!
Aerospace Projects
-Every grade has an aerospace project designed for their level, from studying how animals fly to flying a glider yourself to completing an aerospace career technical education pathway.
-In conjunction with aerospace, studying the effects of flight on objects, like this year’s Team Bok Choy, who studied the effects of microgravity on bok choy’s germination on board the International Space Station.
Classroom Design
-SCVi does not have a traditional classroom setup, and that’s on purpose. We want our learners to move around and engage in creativity, curiosity and synergy.
-Open classrooms and multiage learning environments are based on 21st-century ideas around work and collaboration.
