Dear Families,
To strengthen our commitment to social-emotional learning here at SCVi, our team participated in restorative practices training with the Los Angeles Institute for Restorative Practices (LAIRP) during Mid-Fall Break in October, earning our certifications in restorative practices.
Restorative practices align perfectly with SCVi’s commitment to social-emotional learning in the following ways:
- Building strong relationships: Fostering a sense of community and belonging among learners and staff.
- Resolving conflict peacefully: Providing effective strategies for addressing conflict constructively and collaboratively.
- Creating a safe and supportive learning environment: Ensuring that all learners feel valued, respected, and empowered to learn and lead.
We are excited to introduce you to Carlos Alvarez, a leader in the field of restorative practices and the founder of LAIRP. Carlos is now working closely with our staff on campus to implement restorative practices.
Carlos brings a wealth of experience to our school community. With over 17 years in social service, including 13 years as a school culture administrator, he has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to supporting families and students. He has dedicated his career to addressing complex challenges and promoting social-emotional well-being within schools.
You may see Carlos around campus, and we encourage you to say hello! We are confident that Carlos’s expertise will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our school community and provide the best possible learning environment for our learners at SCVi.
Warmly,
Chad and Martha
