Dear SCVi families,
As we enter autumn, it’s mind-boggling to consider that we are entering the third season since our distance learning model began last March due to the global pandemic. We commend you for your growth mind-set toward supporting your children at home. We commend your children for their continued optimism and zest toward learning. And we commend all our staff for their grit and perseverance in creating high-quality learning in a virtual format.
This week we have many opportunities for families to participate in their children’s learning and to gain more insight about our school program.
The Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) process is a cornerstone of our learning model, as we believe it is important that our learners know that together you and our facilitators are a team supporting them to reach their full potential and personal goals. If you have not yet participated in your child’s ILP, we encourage you to sign up with your child’s facilitator to do so.
Back to School Night is this Tuesday evening, so please be on the lookout for more detailed information from your child’s facilitator. Here you will learn more about your child’s learning program for the school year and have the opportunity to ask questions.
We are hosting our first ELAC, English Language Advisory Committee, meeting this Thursday, October 1, at 8:00 AM via Zoom.
Our Scarlet Foundation will also be hosting our first Parent University of the school year this Thursday evening, October 1. We encourage you to attend to learn more about ways to become involved with school during our distant learning and to connect with us and each other.
Please see specific articles below for more information. All are welcome and encouraged to come.
At SCVi our objective is to provide a full-inclusion learning environment where all learners are met at their independent learning ability and then challenged to thrive. We value and encourage independent thinking and provide the environment for all learners to think critically and lead courageously. With project-based learning, we encourage our learners to work collaboratively, thinking critically about what they observe and how their contributions can make a difference.
We value the words of two late, great civil rights and social justice leaders:
“If you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have a moral obligation to do something about it.” —John Lewis
“Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” —Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Together we can make our school community, as well as our larger community, inclusive and just for all.
With gratitude,
The SCVi Leadership Team
Nicole Padovich, Director, Upper School and Operation
Nessa Roffredo, Director, Lower School
Tina Toval, Leadership Resident
