SCVi Charter School learners

Dear families,

Welcome to Week 5!

Back to School Night is just around the corner on September 29. We hope you’re all able to participate in the various Zoom sessions with your child’s facilitators.

We also want to give you a quick overview of our electives program for lower school (grades TK-8).

Lower school elective classes have begun! Our TK-5 electives are intended to be exploratory classes to expose learners to the arts and language. Our 6th-8th graders choose electives for a more in-depth experience of fields of interest. While in our distance learning program due to current health guidelines, we are continuing to provide our electives with both a focus on theory and application of the arts and language.

This year our electives are as follows:

  • Art with Mr. Johnson
  • Music with Mr. Ruben
  • PE with Ms. Kelly (grades TK-7) and Coach Nolan (grade 8)
  • Spanish with Ms. Diana (grades TK/K/1), Ms. Maria (grades 2/3 & 6/7), and Ms. Laura (grades 4/5  & 7/8)

Learners in grades TK/K/1 can access their activities in each elective facilitator’s PowerSchool. If you or your child has any questions, each facilitator also holds an open office hour via Zoom on Fridays from 9:15-10:15 AM.

Learners in grades 2-5 join each elective facilitator via Zoom session once per week. Electives dates and times are assigned to the homeroom facilitator. Learners join their cohort classmates for each elective session.

Learners in grades 6-8 have chosen one elective to participate in twice per week on asynchronous days.

Learner attendance is expected, rather than optional, as electives are part of your child’s learning program. That being said, please email your child’s elective facilitator if you anticipate that your child will not be able to attend on a given day:

*All learners participate in our electives program with the exception of those participating in the Spanish Dual Immersion Program with Ms. Megan and Ms. Maria or Ms. Chrissie and Ms. Laura. These learners are in their Immersion Program classes daily and have their cultural classes on Fridays.

We look forward to seeing you on Zoom at Back to School Night September 29!

With gratitude,

The SCVi Leadership Team
Nicole Padovich, Director, Upper School and Operations
Nessa Roffredo, Director, Lower School
Tina Toval, Leadership Resident
