SCVi Celebrates Women’s History Month
March 1 marks the beginning of a month dedicated to the contributions of women in history.
This annual celebration of Women’s history originated as a weeklong celebration in 1978 by the Education Task Force of the Sonoma County (California) Commission on the Status of Women to expand on the International Women’s Day.
By 1980, the weeklong celebration was nationally recognized, and by 1995 the month of March would be adopted into US history as Women’s History Month.
The theme for Women’s History Month is chosen each year by the National Women’s History Alliance. This year’s theme captures the spirit of these challenging times: Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to Be Silenced.
