Zonta Club Honors SCVi Senior Nyasia Surrgick for Community Service

Nyasia Surrgick - Zonta Recognition (1)

SCVi Charter School senior Nyasia Surrgick was recently honored by the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley for her significant contributions to advancing the status of women through community service.

Nyasia, who has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club for about five years, attended Sierra Vista for 8th grade. She said, “Due to the fact that my parents had to pick up my little brother before picking me up and the fact that the club was right there, my parents signed me up to attend.” Soon Nyasia was recruited to the Keystone Club, which is the Boys & Girls Club teen leadership program. With Keystone, teens participate in activities in three focus areas: academic success, career preparation, and community service.

“The most rewarding part of community service is the people,” Nyasia said. “The smiles, the true thankfulness, the way my heart just fills — that is the most rewarding part. The way I feel and the way people make you feel after you help them.”

Nyasia’s heart for service is what ultimately led the the Santa Clarita Valley Boys & Girls Club to nominate her to be honored at the 38th Women in Service luncheon event. Held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Canyon County Community Center, the event honored volunteers for their community service and for making a difference in the community — especially in the lives of women.

“It was really cool to be recognized among all these truly amazing women who have done so much for their community,” Nyasia said. “I can only hope that when I grow up, I’ll be half the woman any of my fellow nominees are today.”

This spring, Nyasia will graduate from SCVi. “My favorite part of SCVi,” she said, “is the creative space we are given to learn in our own way. I also love the independent learning opportunities. It’s the perfect environment for me to facilitate my learning.”

And after graduation? The future is limitless. “After high school,” she said, “I plan to pursue my bachelor’s degree in business along with my real estate license. With my degree and license, I plan to build a real estate empire. I know — it’s pretty ambitious, but I’ve always been a ‘shoot for the moon’ kind of gal.”

We are so proud of Nyasia, a dynamic volunteer who contributes her time and expertise to make the community a better place.
