Grades 4 & 5 Riley’s Farm Revolutionary War Overnight Trip May 13!

When: May 13-14, 2020

Where: RILEY’S FARM, 12261 S. Oak Glen Rd, Oak Glen, CA

Join us on our annual overnight trip for our 4th and 5th grader learners!

Riley’s Farm Revolutionary War overnight trip is a living history experience like no other. The Revolutionary War Overnight on the grounds of Colonial Chesterfield at Riley’s Farm combines a popular daytime Revolutionary War Adventure with an evening of living history fun in a re-creation of a New England farmstead from the 18th century. During your stay, you can expect plenty of authentic characters, great food, fun activities and contests with delicious prizes!

This is an exciting, extended field trip that takes place in the 21 hours between 5:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. the next day. Riley’s Farm is situated at about 4500ft. above sea level and receives rain and snow on a regular basis in the winter. It is by no means an extreme environment, but staying chilly and having wet feet are sure ways to ruin the experience. The following is a list of gear for learners, parents, and facilitators TO BRING to maximize your enjoyment during your stay. Learners will be indoors for meals, in tents for sleeping, and outdoors for the tour and activities. Temperatures can dip into the twenties in winter and early spring, so it is best to be prepared! What to bring?

  • Warm sleeping bag, rated between zero and twenty degrees F
  • Pillow
  • Two sets of warm clothes capable of being layered
  • Warm, weather-resistant jacket
  • Sturdy, comfortable, water-resistant shoes. Avoid canvas (including Vans, Converse)
  • Warm hat
  • Flashlight with good batteries (you will use this only briefly)
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, medication, and any other necessary toiletries
  • Gloves or mittens (optional; mittens are better)
  • Thermal underwear (optional, but a really good idea in cold weather)
  • Scarf (optional, but nice to have)
  • Reading Material (optional)
  • Thin sleeping pad (optional)
  • Extra blanket (optional)
  • Camera (optional)
  • Money (optional)

There is no heat in any of the buildings except the Tavern, which is only for dining. Therefore, the most important thing to bring along is a good-quality, warm sleeping bag!
