Come join the SCVi Robotics Team for a night of Trivia in the SCVi Theatre! This is a family-friendly event featuring STEM-themed trivia. Tickets for learners and seniors are $15 and for adults are $20. Tickets include a pizza dinner, with extra pizza and drinks available for purchase. Organize a team ahead of time or just play with the people at your table!

We’re gearing up for competition season and have started the building process, but our team still needs to raise $1,000 for registration, transportation, and the cost of materials. Your donation, big or small, will allow the learners of SCVi to compete this March. Donors of amounts exceeding $75 will be made official team sponsors, and your family name will be added to the Stallion team shirt.

Additional Note:
Are you looking to join Robotics? We meet Monday through Thursday after school (3:15-4:15 PM) and welcome all new members!

This June, SCVi is hosting a brand-new workshop experience for learners ages 7-16. SCVi High School Updates

…in giving a warm SCVi welcome to three exceptional English educators who will begin their new roles at SCVi starting on Monday, September 23. Hannah Duran will facilitate English 9,…

We are happy to share several updates regarding our high school program, including our Aerospace CCL Pathway and our English, PE, theater, and elective classes.

Aerospace Career-Connected Learning Pathway

As many of you are aware, SCVi was recently awarded the K12 Strong Workforce Program Grant, allowing us to expand STEAM learning at SCVi by developing our aerospace career-connected learning pathway. Aerospace Facilitator Lead Justin Albright has been instrumental in developing the curriculum to launch this pathway and will continue to collaborate with Daniel Prasch, our upper school science facilitator, who will spearhead this program as we move forward, preparing our learners for opportunities in this high-demand field. Justin, who has accepted a position in the aerospace industry, will continue to work with our team and remain close to the project as a member of the school’s Aerospace Advisory Council as this program takes flight.

English

We hope you’ll join us in giving a warm SCVi welcome to three exceptional English educators who will begin their new roles at SCVi starting on Monday, September 23. Hannah Duran will facilitate English 9, and Lindsay Martinez will facilitate English 10 and 11. In addition, our very own School Director Martha Spansel-Pellico, a highly qualified English educator with extensive experience, will facilitate English 12 IB. Martha is excited to share her passion for the subject with our learners while continuing in her role as codirector.

PE

As previously communicated, we have made a change to our physical education programming. We are pleased to provide our regularly scheduled PE courses, now through an independent study model. Under the supervision of Matt Wayne, learners will continue to access high-quality instruction and equipment for a successful PE experience. On Monday, September 23, learners will report to Mr. Wayne at 7th period for direction with their PE course.

Theater

Under Amy Ciceri’s leadership, the theater program, for which SCVi has become well known, will continue to grow. Our team is exploring an exciting new opportunity through a partnership with College of the Canyons to offer a greater variety of rigorous theater options to our learners.

Electives

If your child is interested in even more A-G-approved elective options, SCVi offers a significant number of courses through the Edmentum platform, such as fashion design, music appreciation, visual arts, digital and interactive media, graphic design, and cybersecurity, to name a few. Please reach out to Ms. Nilsen for assistance if your learner would like to learn more about these options and sign up.

As always, if you or your child have any questions regarding any of these opportunities, please feel free to reach out to Counselor Kris Nilsen at kris.nilsen@scvi-k12.org or to Directors Chad Powell and Martha Spansel-Pellico at leadership@scvi-k12.org.

At iLEAD Schools, our mission can be stated simply: “Free to Think. Inspired to Lead.”

Our vision is to use project-based and social-emotional learning concepts to inspire and motivate lifelong learners with the skills they need to lead in the 21st century. We incorporate technology into every component of our curriculum, and we value and encourage development of leadership skills by inspiring confidence and character in each of our unique learners.

We know that for our learners to succeed, they must feel at home in the world. This requires a firm grounding in the arts, humanities, and sciences — and a strong foundation in social-emotional learning. We believe there is an implicit, as well as an explicit, curriculum to teach, and our goal is nothing short of shaping learners who change the world.

iLEAD Schools are based on a new paradigm: Project-Based, Deeper Learning. We create open, innovative TK-12 learning environments that promote a deeper understanding of curriculum and celebrate independent critical thinking, cooperation, and the development of crucial skills.

“The culture of school is radically at odds with the
culture of learning necessary for innovation.”

Innovation Studios Corner

…How does the mind inhibit or enhance sports performance? How does Nancy Rourke use art to help the deaf community speak? How can I design, test, and build a dirt…

Hello families,

I have been sharing Innovation Studios folders with you and your learners during weekly check-ins. As an independent study program we need to collect work samples for each learning period. Please check in with your child to see what they have collected so far. We have just finished our second learning period.

In advisory (Mondays from 1 to 1:50), we are still exploring the book “Ignite Your Spark.” Right now we are reading Chapter 7, which is about defining dreams. We are watching the documentary (in pieces) “The Dream Share Project.” I have attached the link to the trailer here. I have asked the learners to bring a photo of themselves next Monday. The photo needs to be from preschool years-middle school and preferably showing them doing something they love, showing imagination, playing, etc. We will be using them as a conversation starter about personal stories and dreams. I am not keeping the photos. Those who missed advisory yesterday need to check in with me.

Tenth graders need to have chosen their topic for their personal project and began logging their journals.  Please let me know if you need help.

Some driving questions for our independent study classes:

  • How does surrealism represent the Latino struggles around the world?
  • How does the mind inhibit or enhance sports performance?
  • How does Nancy Rourke use art to help the deaf community speak?
  • How can I design, test, and build a dirt bike trailer with a budget?

Alex Urbina offers an amazing two-day teen leadership training. This only happens twice a year!  See info below.

Our Last Teen Training for 2017

Alex Urbina is hosting his last Transformational Teen Training of the year on Nov. 11-12 in Santa Clarita.

Do you want to give your teenager a once-in-a-lifetime gift of empowerment?

Do you want to spark the passion to take on life’s challenges with confidence and purpose?

Do you want your teen to learn how to choose to take responsibility for their own life and their own results?

If you have answered yes to any of those questions, you might want your teen to attend The Teen Life Leadership Training to discover their inner champion.

Here are a few important dates:

Nov. 6: Bring childhood photo for Dream Project

Nov. 6: Mr. Collin Haynes will be available in our studio for grade check-in and science support from 10:30 to 11:30

Nov. 8:  10th grade personal project workshop 9 to 9:30
